scryptIQ is an innovative education provider dedicated to addressing a persisting skills gap for research scientists: bridging their deep domain expertise with the latest advances in computational technology, data science, machine learning and AI. It is actively developing training programmes of its own, and collaborates with other providers to deliver bespoke, research science-adjacent computational education.
Originally developed at University College London, scryptIQ is an active collaborator with BBI Ltd., developing and delivering the Learn to Discover (L2D) course. L2D is a fully-supported training programme and platform dedicated to upskilling researchers in the biosciences, healthcare and medicine in Python programming, data science, machine learning and AI. Its primary focus is the application of these to real-world bioscientific data. If you want to learn more about how to powerfully incorporate and customise the concepts you learn in this course from scratch in Python, we invite you to take a look at the available L2D training.
At scryptIQ we like to say that our educational content is developed "for researchers, by researchers".

Senior Academic Fellow
Adam has been part of L2D since its first year, and is one of the founders of scryptIQ. His PhD and research investigated the evolution of retroviruses in mammals, obtained at Imperial College London, where he went on to assist in the delivery of the biology and biochemistry degree streams as a Teaching Fellow, before joining UCL in 2021.
Adam brings a blend of pedagogical experience, programming skills and creativity to the courses we run.
Education & Technology Fellow
Laurence gained his PhD from Imperial College London, modelling the sleep states of fruit flies with movement data captured by machine vision in custom hardware.
He is the author of the Python package ethoscopy: a complete analytical toolbox for processing and visualising behavioural time series data, and brings a wealth of Python experitise and ideas of how to implement new technology into education.
Innovation Fellow
Alex is a PhD student at UCL's Division of Surgery, researching AI applications for brain signal interpretation.
He teaches AI, computer science, and data analysis across Master's programs in healthcare and human-computer interaction, and serves as an innovation fellow at ScryptIQ, focusing on emerging AI and computer science technologies.
Graphic Design & Branding
Jade is a wonderful example of where creativity and science synergise, powerfully. From early in L2D’s journey, all the way through into scryptIQ, she has been in charge of designing our iconography, digital and print assets, and merchandise. Jade is currently finishing a neuroscience PhD at UCL, where she studies cerebral dynamics using Zebrafish models. She is an avid data scientist, and supplements her work as our graphic designer, with her position as a research assistant in UCL’s Anatomy building..
Administrator / HR / Finance / Everything
Hannah has been a core part of L2D, and is a founding member of scryptIQ. With many years of top-level administative experience behind her, Hannah has run what was originally the sysMIC course, all the way through into L2D and scryptIQ. She does everything the academics can't, and keeps the company, its staff and students running like clockwork.
Academic Lead
Gerold has been a keystone memeber of the L2D course and its inception. He authored many of the course's materials, and has solidly delivered the lecture and teaching component of L2D since its first student cohort.
Gerold is a distinguished researcher and associate professor at UCL, with a particular interest in the dynamics of disease and epileptic brain activity. He brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise and limitless agility and experience to the courses we offer.
Company Director
Our Course Chair, Geraint is a founding member of both L2D and scryptIQ, leading these projects from their genesis through to the mature and acclaimed courses they offer, today. His vision, decades of experience and wealth of knowledge are at the core of ecery success we have had. Geraint is also Pro-Vice-Provost (Doctoral School & Early Career Research Staff) at UCL, where he has been a Professor leading the university's Natural Sciences degree, teaching cell signalling, while conducting copious research in the field.
